'Bun of the Year

digital over watercolor
I am really happy with how this came out. I was excited for it when i drew and inked it, and I was excited for adding more ink. I TRIED to do a wet on wet technique, where you drop ink onto wet paper but I must've used the wrong type of paper for this, because the ink didn't really do much spreading, too small an area maybe? However, THANKS David Choe, for the inspiration (i will try again later)! Anyway, after that, I moved on to watercolor, and i thought I would do a good job, but I had a hard time with it, and I also may have drawn the facial features in too realistically proportion-wise, and I didn't like it. So, I stopped working traditionally and took a picture of it and worked on it digitally instead. That was going fine, but it still wasn't feeling quite right. I lost inspiration and stopped working on it (I had some video clips, so I put those together into a short video that you may or may not have seen on Instagram). So, I had called it quits and tried to forget about my unsettled business with this piece and I moved on. I started a new watercolor...on paper that, I later learned was not very good quality but I didn't know that at the time, and I began to feel a little down about my work, because I did not like how it was going. I again turned to digital, and continued rendering this new watercolor and began to really love how it was looking. I started feeling better and thought about my latest abandoned piece, instead leaving it unsettled and forgotten I went back to it, this 'bun of mine, and I started working on the digital version of her again. I cut and resized some proportions and soon I started to love it! & here we are! It felt like a long journey.

At the very beginning of making this, the name 'Bun of the Year came to me. And I stuck with it, even during the times when I wasn't too happy with the piece. Once things were working out better for it, in the digital realm, it looked like she would look good with words on her body. Her tattoos say "I am not fearful" and they just repeat. So! In conclusion; this is the 'Bun of the year, and she is not fearful. "I am not fearful, I am not fearful, I am not fearful"
