I'm Carol Roque. I am 25 years old. I was born in Los Angeles, California and lived in various counties/cities in the surrounding area, with the last one being Panorama City. That was until my family moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1997 when I was 11 years old. After graduating from the Art Institute of Phoenix, a "technical" school from which I majored in Media Arts and Animation (which I discovered was not my passion but stuck with it to get my degree). Immediately after graduating I began teaching myself how to oil paint, and figuring out how to make artwork that didn't look like I was teaching myself how to paint. I continued experimenting with oil paint but also worked digitally since it gave me better tools to learn certain skills. I continued blogging and displaying art locally anywhere I could (coffee shops, bars, etc) . After realizing that there was nothing else I'd want to do in life, I moved in with my best friend into a tiny 100 year old house near downtown Phoenix, to pursue my dream of becoming a self employed full-time artist. I have been teaching myself oil painting since then, and have been participating in the local First Fridays art walk in phoenix almost every single month since late 2006. I am Mexican American. I am the eldest child; I'm almost 9 years older than my only sibling.
I am an artist. I have dedicated my life to art and pursuing my dream of creating art for a living. Oil paint is my medium of choice. I also enjoy experimenting in other mediums, such as watercolor, ink, graphite, spray paint, digital and I even create hand crafted art dolls.
In most of my artwork I try to evoke emotion from and with the characters in my paintings. Sometimes it's planned, sometimes it's a surprise.
My obsessions include painting, radical self love, how to make the most out of each day, how not to be a starving artist, good music, portrayals of intensity in art, and trying not to worry, just long enough to be able to create art.
Other things!
I have a daily progress diary where I will now try to post all the details & going ons with my art work.
I also have a Facebook Page where you can follow official news, events, new pieces & a few sneak peeks.
